‎Whenever we sell or buy a second-hand  phone or an Android device we keep this in mind that the second-hand phone or the phone which we are going to sell  must be completely wiped out or we can say that it should have no data of the real owner .

And it can be done through the factory reset option which is available in all the Android devices but many of us don’t know about its use.

But before to factory reset your android device you should secure your data which can be done by following two methods :

1 )  Either by backing up your data

2)   or by encryption.

So we start with the very first method which is backing up your whole data. 

Simply follow the given steps 

Step 1 : Go to the settings app in your Android device. A list of five different major head options will appear. These are wireless and Network ,device ,personal, accounts and system. Now tap on the “backup and reset” option under the head ‘personal’. You can see the other options like Location, security, language and input along with that option.

 

 

Step 2 : Different options about backup  and personal data will appear . Under backup and restore you can find backup my data , backup account details and automatic restore features .

On the other side , personal subhead shows options like DRM reset and factory data reset.

What you have to do is just check the box for BACKUP MY DATA . It will backup data, WiFi password and other settings to Google servers so that you will not lose any of your data.

The next thing that will be shown here is how to encrypt your phone. Doing a factory reset after encrypting your phone results in a low chance of someone being able to recover your data. it needs sometime time to encrypt the android device.

Following are the steps through which you can easily encrypt your phone –

Step 1 : Go to the settings app in your Android device. A list of five different major head options will appear. These are wireless and Network ,device ,personal, accounts and system. Now tap on the “backup and reset” option under the head ‘personal’. You can see the other options like Location, security, language and input along with that option.

Step 2 : Tap on the security option for encrypting your phone’s data.

Step 3 : After you do so , a screen will appear featuring some options related to screen security, encryption, passwords, sim card lock , device administration, Credential storage.

Step 4 : The next thing you have to do is just hit on the ” encrypt phone ” option. It will need a numeric pin or password to decrypt your phone each time you power it on.

The next screen on your phone will show some important points which should be kept in mind for encrypting your device like you must start with a charged battery and keep your phone plugged in until encryption is complete and if you interrupt the encryption process you will lose some or all the data.

After securing your phone’s data  you are ready to do the factory reset of your Android device .

Now here are the steps which help you to do factory reset very  easily : 

Step 1 : Go to the settings app in your Android device. A list of five different major head options will appear. These are wireless and Network ,device ,personal, accounts and system. Now tap on the “backup and reset” option under the head ‘personal’. You can see the other options like Location, security, language and input along with that option.

Now hit the FACTORY DATA RESET option under the personal head .

Step 3 : The screen appeared will give you a short information about factory data reset. It will let know you that this feature will erase all data from your Android device including Downloaded apps , music , photos, other user data.

Afterwards it shows the email accounts through which you are signed in to Google , other mails and WhatsApp like accounts.

Step 4 : Now check the box for erase USB storage data which will erase your all the data on internal USB storage such as media photos and music.

The phone will now reboot and the erasing and resetting process will start. In a couple of minutes, you’ll see the Android setup screen. That means you’re done.

If your having a SD card then you can also erase all the data in it by after the given steps :

Step 1 : Go to the storage option in the settings app in your Android device

Step 2 : it will display two options phone storage and SD card storage. Tap on the SD card option .

Step 3 :  Scroll the screen and at the end you will find option ‘ erase SD card‘ which will erase all the media files present in your SD card.
